A Further Seperation, Distance Only

A short update.

Caleb leaves tonight to prepare for the flight to Iraq. He checks in on base at 2100 hours (9:00pm to us civilians!!) and then they will transport by bus to another base to board a commercial flight headed straight to Iraq. They will stop in Maine for gas, as well as somewhere in Europe and he should be in Iraq by tomorrow evening.

Some good news, which of course can always change with the Marines! The Gunrunners (Caleb's unit HMLA 269) will be the last Marine unit sent to Iraq with Hueys and Cobras and all of their birds should be back in the States by the time Caleb returns in 2010. He also told me that, as of now, our unit is not slated to be deployed again for awhile. Afghanistan is a whole different ball game, with less use of Caleb's qualifications. That will be a wonderful blessing. I am keeping my fingers crossed and my prayers constant that Caleb will be able to enjoy the baby's first year of life uninterrupted by deployments. Of course, should anything change, we know that this is what we do, it's what pays the bills, it's our life. A life we love, but don't always like!

Please keep us in your prayers!
