amelia's first christmas.... part three: the wreath!

lately i have seen so many different blogs showcasing their absolutely beautiful wreaths and so i decided i wanted to make all of them a few.  i had so much fun making this yarn ball wreath {very starbucks-style}, that i wanted to show you step by step how it came together so that you could have your very own also!! i found an easy to follow guide from the pleated poppy, and just made it my own with a few variations.  so let's get going!

{gather your materials}

{yarn in your color choice - cheap ornaments - wreath - hot glue gun}

total amount i spent on the above supplies - $20

{instructions}

1.  i started out by organizing {this will help in the long run}.... i pulled out the centers of my yarn skiens so that i wouldn't have to deal with a) rolling skiens of yarn while it unraveled or b) tangled yarn while i'm trying to work.  so once you have everything set up and ready to go, grab your first ornament that you want to cover, and start by adding a small dot of glue at the top, near the hanger, and adhere your yarn.

2.  then, cover the ornament with hot glue - but work fast because it dries fast!! i put vertical lines all over the ball to make it easy and not globby in certain areas.   then start wrapping in all directions.  this will give you a good base to work off of.

3.  now, keep wrapping.... and wrapping.... and wrapping.  actually, it's not that bad, and if you get going in a rhythm, you can wrap up an ornament in just a few minutes.  i would wrap the yarn five or six times around before changing directions.  keep wrapping until all of the ornament color is covered and all you see is pretty yarn and the ornament hanger.  once you are done wrapping, cut your yarn and hot glue it down (i always glued it near the top so you wouldn't see it).

4.  i wrapped up 5 small ornaments and 2 large before putting them on the wreath.....  and then i realized, oh, i need alot more!! kind of just eyeball it!  i also added some sparkly and non-yarned ornaments in to give the wreath a lighter feel.  you can just stick the branches of the wreath through the ornament hanger and bend the tip of the branch to keep it on.  some of my ornaments had a really small hanger so i grabbed some of those green twisty things that you use for hanging on a tree and wrapped those around the branches.  then adjust as necessary, hang on a wreath hanger, stand back and admire your handiwork!

this project took me about an hour and a half start to finish.... only because my little helper needed breakfast, needed a diaper change, needed entertainment that was not wrapped under the tree, and then needed a nap.

{so sweet}

these ornaments are so easy to make and they are fun and cute!! i'm going to ask caleb when he gets home from work if i can buy another case of $2.50 ornaments so i can wrap them up and hang them on the tree!  the pleated poppy keeps them in a cute glass container as a tablescape and also hangs them in different areas in her house - adorable!  i love her blog, you should check it out.

i am totally considering adding these wreaths to my etsy shop.
