i got another email from my sister yesterday. for those of you who didn't read my last post regarding her - she is a first-time missionary in south africa, in a town called Tzaneen. she is working with an organization called Alon International where she works at an orphanage on a farm. she loves working with children, and God recently called her to go abroad for the first time in her life.
before i start with her email from yesterday - i wanted to let you know that i did find someone to donate a cell phone for her!!! that was an answered prayer, and it is already on it's way down to her. she said that the guy that was going to provide her south african SIM card now is unable to, so please continue to pray for her to be able to find reliable communication!
since her last email i got, she has really become more comfortable with her surroundings and is making great friends with some of the other workers on the farm! she went on a safari at Kruger National Park with several friends one weekend and got to camp inside the park and saw so many animals roaming wild and free. that is so awesome to me - she said the first night on the ride in they read the story of Creation from Genesis and it was so inspiring as the sun was setting. i can only imagine all the beauty of His creation she is seeing in this foreign country!
each week she emails another story of another child. last week i told you how one of the children homed at the orphanage was found in a pile of garbage. she told me this week of two young girls that have been at the orphanage for 7 months now. they are five and seven years old. for the past two years, their father repeatedly raped them, but their mother believes in their father's innocence. there is to be a trial in january where the little girls will have to testify against their father, hopefully putting him in jail for life. these girls have been through so much and are obviously troubled. a few nights ago, sarah told me that the oldest girl, Tsibizo, attacked another girl at the orphanage after lights out. when the farm manager found the girls, there was blood all over the bedding and the girls' pajamas. luckily, there was no permanent damage done and both of the girls are being watched and taken care of. can you imagine what kind of problems these children will have for life, from the way their biological families have treated them? i simply can't understand it.
on a happier note, sarah will have the opportunity to visit some of Alon's other south african properties in the coming months. she is fairly confident she will be visiting Capetown. i really anticipate her emails each week, as she doesn't have much time to get into town and find internet access. my little sister has become quite the strong, independent woman that God has created her to be - she has really gained composure and responsibility while putting her faith totally in the Lord!
as an aside to my sister, please also keep my parents in your prayers! my father had surgery last thursday to have his left kidney removed. it showed up on a CT scan looking so different than a typical kidney. the doctor is 95% sure it was cancerous. they are waiting for the biopsy reports to come back so they can move on with further treatment. my dad told me that a normal kidney usually weighs in around a pound, but they believe his kidney to have weighed over five pounds. i am so thankful they found it in time! he is home, healing well and ready to go back to work on a new contract!
do you have prayer requests? i would love to lift you and your family up in my daily prayer time.
