i love holidays. i especially love holidays with meaning. as i said a few posts back, so many people simply pass by thanksgiving and move straight into the gift-giving season after dressing in costumes for halloween. giving thanks is such an integral part of our relationship with others, and especially with Christ.
this year i am so grateful for my life in general. i have a beautiful daughter that i can spend this holiday with, for whom i am immensely thankful. after so many losses, to be gifted the opportunity to care for this adorable child - i can't help but thank God for this gift that loves to throw food, eat magazines and squeeze out the nastiest cloth diapers in the world.
in addition, i am also thankful for....
1. my loving husband, whom i am lucky enough to be sitting next to today, rather than waiting impatiently by the phone for my fifteen minutes of a phone call from a far away country. thank you God for allowing my husband to be home this year.
2. my sister, who is doing the Lord's work in south africa, caring for beautiful children who don't have a safe place to call home. thank you God for providing her this awesome and life-inspiring chance to serve you.
3. my family who constantly support us, send meaningful words of affirmation and are able to spend a few quality minutes each week with amelia via webcam. thank you God for giving me such a wonderful support group, albeit the distance between us, i know they are always there when i need a shoulder to cry on or a friend to rejoice with.
i hope you all have a wonderful, joyous holiday - be sure to express your thankfulness! a few well-meaning words can go so far in another's heart.
