can i just say that until the day before it happened, i had no idea there was a hurricane a-comin'? i didn't even know that it was hurricane season, for crying out loud. how sad is that.... well, not too sad in my book. i really don't pay attention to the news because it's either someone got murdered, someone cheated on their wife, or someone got caught dog-fighting. it's all the same, i don't care to hear about it, so i just don't. the only insight into the outside world i get is when caleb yells out from his computer about something crazy he just read on yahoo.com.... he's nuts.
but back to hurricane earl, he's our spotlight today. so, skip back to wednesday.... i forgot it was labor day weekend. i have a four day weekend coming!! i called caleb up and said "let's go camping" and he was like "uhhhhh, there's a hurricane coming tomorrow". what?! how could the weather foil my four day? so rather than spend a lovely, long, lazy weekend outdoors with our beautiful child and the only 9 cloth diapers i have in my possession (that's a whole other blog), we went to a friend's house for a "hurricane party".
the "hurricane party" was basically us playing phase 10 (up until phase 7, where i promptly went to bed because i wake up before the butt crack of dawn). par-----tay!!!! never in my wildest dreams would i have imagined that this would be my life as a twenty-something year old. i worry about tylenol dosages, have squeaky toys under the car seat, puree every food i can think of.... and play phase 10 at parties. my. life. is. fun. actually, my life is awesome, and i say that with a negative amount of sarcasm. i love being a mom.... phase 10 after the kids go to bed included!
back to earl.....
well, it started raining. it got a little windy. we went to bed. i woke up friday morning expecting mayhem, downed trees, no power, looters (ok, maybe no looters.... this is north carolina and most people don't have anything to be looted). when i walked outside, i saw that our friends had put their recyclables out the day before and all the empty milk jugs and aluminum cans were still in the recycling bin. yeah, the wind didn't even blow hard enough to move an empty coke can.
so thanks earl. you came and you went. you didn't conquer, but you did squelch my chance at a beautiful weekend of camping. 'preciate ya.
