amelia is roaming the house nakey today. she has a terrible diaper rash that sprouted out of nowhere! she looks like she has tiny burns on her little butt cheeks and until yesterday, they were very sensitive. i've been applying Aveeno Diaper Rash Ointment liberally when she does have a diaper on (don't worry - it's a safe cream for cloth diapers!), but most of the time she is in her birthday suit.
i don't have the heart to put a disposable diaper on her other than overnight. i have been holding onto this little sample pack of size 3 pampers since i got them in the mail almost 6 months ago. good thing - i put one on her yesterday when we ran out to the lumber yard, one on last night and then another on tonight. hopefully the rash will clear up in the next 24 hours so that i don't have to go buy any disposables! i would really hate that - it's pretty much against everything i stand for.... well, except for being a good mom to amel and taking care of her. so if her little bum isn't healed, i'll probably have to get some. it's for her. you know.
so with a day full of nakedness comes alot of messes - it's like she has saved every poop for today. i'm talking every hour like clockwork. and if i don't catch her fast enough she will slide her body all in and through and over that pile of..... is that mandarin oranges in there? gross!
i've tried so many different home remedies to try to clear this rash up (which i know has to be from teething - three teeth in a week is bound to have some adverse reactions on her body!). i've scorched flour, i've done baking soda baths, nakedness (obviously), sposies...... does anyone have some tried and true tips for rash to clear it up quick like and in a hurry?

My little girl had the same thing - hers actually blistered in a couple of spots! We have Northern Essence and California Baby diaper safe creams. The California Baby seemed to sting her a little more, but it was what finally cleared the rash. We also did prefolds fastened loosely with a Snappi and no cover - it allows the air to flow, but keeps the carpet clean. I think Elaine's rash is from teething - she's cutting her molars, and she had a lot of teething symptoms that she didnt' get with the other teeth, including more and loose bowl movements. That only irritated the rash worse! We got through it with no disposables... it can be done!
ReplyDeleteReally nasty bumpy red diaper rash is usually a yeast related rash. The best way to treat would be a topical over the counter cream for yeast infections like Lotrimin/Monistat. You put a small amount 3-4 times a day along with your regular diaper ointment.
ReplyDeleteIt only happen to us once and after hesitating of a day about using the cream recommended by a friend I went ahead. Thenext day it was laready tons better and completely cleared within 48 hours. You want to use it for as many days as recommended on the cream info to avoid a re-flared up. Hope this help
Try taking everything acidic out of her diet. Ms. Diva can't handle any manderin oranges or pineapple without getting an ouchy bum.

Be careful with the monistat treatments. I tried that on S's "yeasty" bum once and it exploded into a vibrant localized red! Yikes. I recently bought a raw silk liner for my cloth that is supposed to help with diaper rash, but haven't had the chance to try it on anything significant. It might be worth a shot. $2.50 at Mom's Milk Boutique. My midwife swore by salt water soaks on the bum. My MD who is very supportive of home remedies suggested oil of oregano mixed into some diaper cream.
